There is no deny the fact that in the Yoruba movie industry, Wale Akorede otherwise known as Okunnu has, over the years, become a force to reckon with among the comic actors in the industry. Before 2007, the likes of Bolaji Amusan, Opebe, Baba Suwe, Dejo Tunfulu, Ronke Oshodi Oke, Baba Ijesha, Adewale Elesho and others were top in playing comic roles before Okunnu returned from Saudi Arabia to displaced them.Though, the Ibadan, Oyo State-based actor started acting right from his primary school days and one of his teachers had then predicted that he would end up trading in the make belief industry. He made acting a profession in 1984, but fortunately and unfortunately for him, he left the industry to Saudi Arabia for a greener pasture, where he sold clothes, Shoes, Bras, Pants and other fashion accessories for good 13 years before Muyiwa Ademola Invited him back into acting in 2007. As a returnee, he produced a movie entitled: Afurugbin to reintroduce himself in to the industry. Subsequently, he featured in many exciting movies, including Ise-Imole, and Ayekoto written and produced by Sarafa Olabode, where he made an hilarious slogan, “Tori Owo Nani” and the flick boosted his popularity and registered his face on many movie buffs’ minds. Since then, he became hot and the first choice comedian for virtually all the movie producers and directors in the Yoruba movie industry. As a result Okunu won series of awards home and abroad, including, City People Entertainment Awards, which he bagged trice back to back.
