Penultimate Monday, news broke that things were not as rosy as they used to be between a popular Yoruba actress, Motunrayo Balogun and her parents as the family mounted pressure on her to get married this year.
Reports have it that the sexy actress, who is in her mid-30s was called early this year by her parents to do the needful, which is expected from not just anybody, but a responsible lady that she is depicting. This was sequel to her achievement in 2017 as one of the most favoured Nigerian celebrities, having won her debut award as ‘Revelation Actress of the Year’, she shot series of movies.
She also graduated as a Philosopher from the Lagos State University {LASU}the same year. But before then, she had graduated from Moshood Abiola Polytechnic {Ojere}, Abeokuta, Ogun State where she studied Mass Communication. After she has given all that were required by her parents as a deferential child, which is acquiring education, the ‘Pelekutu’ producer, was reported to be under pressure from the same parents to bring home her future partner.
Motunrayo, while speaking with Yoruba Movie Gist said, My attention was recently drawn to a post on my website about my family pressuring me to get married. I would like to say that I have put the report behind me and focus on my career. Acting is something my family has been supporting me to do over the years. It is normal for my family to advise me on such issues because we are Africans, Yoruba to be precise and marriage is expected of a woman at a certain point in her life. Let’s always remember that everything we do or wish for is in God’s hands.
My family would always look out for me and advise me as expected, knowing the industry I am into. More so, I wouldn’t want to categorically say marriage might come soon or someday only for it to take a longer time than I have announced. All I can say is that “God’s time is the best” and no one can really contest the axiom. That said, my family had been nothing but supportive in my career and any decision I have made. They are unequivocally the best thing that has ever happened to me”, she said.
