The city of Ikorodu, Lagos State was on Sunday 22nd March 2020 witnessed the presence of who is who in the Nigerian entertainment industry, music sector to be precise, when Lagos big boy, Sunday Olugbenga Esan, the chairman Okiki Films and Music Productions, and Okiki Water, who is also a top shot at Dangote Group of Company, marked his 50th birthday quietly.
Though, information has it that the friends of the hardworking Esan initially planned a gigantic 50th birthday party for him but the plans forcefully changed following the Coronavirus threat which is currently battling with every country under the globe.
Also, a big party could no longer hold base on the Lagos State government announcement to its residents not to attend any gathering beyond 50 people.
On Thursday 19th March 2020, the tall but handsome Sunday clocked 50 but decided to hold a special prayer and host a few of his friends at his newly opened Okiki Water premises in Ikorodu.
The prayer kicked off exactly 2pm on Sunday when top clerics began the show. Subsequently, his friends especially members of the association of the Yoruba movie Marketers commenced the golden jubilee celebration which lasted for hours as Mr DJ was busy blasting melodious tunes.
The event didn’t have crowd but important personalities in the entertainment industry such as Alhaja Rukayat Gawat Oyefeso, late Mr Fuji’s daughter, Baritide, Isolak Films boss, Yetqueen Films boss, Toymax Films boss, Olasco Film boss, Legend picture, Halleluyah films (chairman of video marketers association), Time pictures, Aloy Music, Olaoye films, Citizens, Moji Ojonla, Nanagold, Ife Anobi, Iya Saudi, Kazeem Akogba and a few others.
Also in presence were media relations guru from banks, manufacturing sector and the aviation sector.
While apologising to those he must have offended in the line of his duty, Esan said, he grew up hard, with a training to always fight for what is right and just and never to abdicate his responsibilities under any guise.
Speaking on behalf of all his Islamic music artistes, Moji Ojonla said Okiki is so different from all other promoters because he pays attention to details and spend his personal money on all artistes without thinking about where the returns will come from.
According to her: ” our chairman is unique in so many ways. He writes songs and come out with ideas for our producers to perfect and work on. He likes good music and do not hesitate to spend so much on a job, So far he loves the music. But again, he is very temperament. He hates disloyal people and will always say, he will prefer promoting only one or 2 artistes than having 10 who are treacherous and disloyal. You can see the way people came to celebrate with him, he is such a nice and kind man. He is generous to a fault and once you are on his good book, be assured of good promotion from him. He is definitely the best music promoter in town”.
