In the Yoruba movie Industry, Baba Igbomina with his real name, Prince Adewale Adeyemo is a household name that can never be pushed aside. This is because the record he has been able to set for himself in the industry. He is among the thespians who put in their best to entertain Nigerians and the world at large via stage drama and also home video in the 80s,90s and of course till this moment.
In a recent interview with Gbolahan Adetayo, the talented actor exclusively revealed to us that as a Prince in Ila Orangun, Osun State, he was once nominated to be the next paramount ruler of the town which he obstinately turned down.
He further revealed to us some of the reasons behind it.
According to him, “Alhaji Adewale Adeyemo Abdulrasheed is a prince in Ila Orangun in Osun state. Point of correction, Ila Orogun is not a village it is a big town in Yoruba land. Traditionaly, the ancestor of Ila Orangun is in number three among Oduduwa’s children. I don’t even want to be the king of the town. If you look at my age, you agree with me that age is not at my side any longer. I am 60 years old. If I have any offer from the king makers today, I will still reject it.I don’t know why I hate the post. I don’t just want to be one. It is rather u fortunate that I was born into that family. The king makers have once came for me but I said no, I am not interested.I turned down the offers because they were many hustling to get to the throne. My mother warned me that I should not struggle for anything.There is a village in our area where I am supposed to be crowned first before I will now be the king of our town, that village is called AJABA now known as Kajola. Anyone who must be a king in Ila Orangun must first rule at Kajola. I was told we are going to battle for it and I said no I don’t even want to know my opponent. About eight years ago,my elder brother who is a chef in orangun palace brought a letter to me from the palace, saying I will be the next king of the town.
He then told my mother that we are going to drag it with somebody and I insisted that I am not interested in knowing my opponent let alone of dragging anything with anyone. In future, any of my male children who is interested in the throne can join the race but as for me, count me out”, he said.
